Power industry tenders in South and Central America for Q1 2022 down 69%

South and Central America power industry tenders activity in Q1 2022 saw 28 tenders announced, marking a drop of 69% over the last four-quarter average of 90, according to GlobalData’s power database.

South and Central America power industry tenders in Q1 2022: Uruguay leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, Uruguay led the activity in Q1 2022 with nine tenders and a share of 32.1%, up 20.9% over the previous quarter and down 31% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Honduras with five tenders and a share of 17.9% and Bolivia with four tenders and a share of 14.3% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, Bolivia held the top spot with 39 tenders, followed by Uruguay with 13 and Guyana with eight tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in Q1 2022

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with three tenders and a 75% share, followed by thermal with one tender and a 25% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in South and Central America power tenders activity during Q1 2022, with 16 tenders, followed by T&D Project (9) and Energy Storage (3).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 17 tenders and a 60.7% share
  2. Project Implementation: seven tenders and a 25% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: four tenders and a 14.3% share.

Power tenders in Q1 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuer of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in South and Central America was:NTPC (India) with 900MW from one tender.
