Power industry tenders in South and Central America for Q4 2021 up 5%

South and Central America power industry tenders activity in Q4 2021 saw 88 tenders announced, marking a rise of 5% over the last four-quarter average of 84, according to GlobalData’s power database.

South and Central America power industry tenders in Q4 2021: Bolivia leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, Bolivia led the activity in Q4 2021 with 46 tenders and a share of 52.3%, up 7.1% over the previous quarter and up 48% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Uruguay with nine tenders and a share of 10.2% and Venezuela with six tenders and a share of 6.8% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, Bolivia held the top spot with 31 tenders, followed by Uruguay with 13 and Guyana with seven tenders.

Hydro is top technology area for tenders in Q4 2021

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, hydro accounted for the largest proportion with 12 tenders and a 36.4% share, followed by solar with 11 tenders and a 33.3% share and thermal with seven tenders and a 21.2% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in South and Central America power tenders activity during Q4 2021, with 41 tenders, followed by Power Plant (22) and T&D Project (17).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 49 tenders and a 55.7% share
  2. Project Implementation: 24 tenders and a 27.3% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: 11 tenders and a 12.5% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three tenders and a 3.4% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: one tender and a 1.1% share.

Power tenders in Q4 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in South and Central America were:

  1. Ministerio de Energia y Recursos Naturales No Renovables: 900MW from two tenders
  2. Air-e (Colombia): 300MW from one tender
  3. Guyana Power & Light (Guyana): 33MW capacity from one tender.
