Power plant contracts down 28% in Q3 2021

Power plant contracts in Q3 2021 saw 351 contracts announced, marking a drop of 28% over the last four-quarter average of 488, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 263 contracts and a 74.9% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 48 contracts and a 13.7% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 25 contracts and a 7.1% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: 15 contracts and a 4.3% share.

Europe leads power plant activity in Q3 2021

Comparing contracts activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 138 contracts and a share of 39.3% during Q3 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with 135 contracts and a 38.5% share and North America with 40 contracts and an 11.4% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant contracts in Q3 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 182 contracts with a 50.7% share, followed by wind with 103 contracts and a 28.7% share and thermal with 30 contracts and an 8.4% share.

Power plant contracts in Q3 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Akimat of Mangystau Region: 30,000MW from one contract
  2. AO ATC (Russia): 2,722.08MW from 58 contracts
  3. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,400MW capacity from nine contracts.

Power plant contracts in Q3 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Svevind (Sweden): 30,000MW from one contract
  2. Power Construction Corporation of China (China): 2,300MW from two contracts
  3. Sunseap Group (Singapore): 2,206.51MW capacity from five contracts.
