Power plant contracts down 37% in March 2022

Power plant contracts in March 2022 saw 83 contracts announced, marking a drop of 37% over the last 12-month average of 132, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 52 contracts and a 62.7% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 14 contracts and a 16.9% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: ten contracts and a 12% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: seven contracts and an 8.4% share.

Asia-Pacific leads power plant activity in March 2022

Comparing contracts activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 60 contracts and a share of 72.3% during March 2022, followed by Europe with ten contracts and a 12% share and North America with seven contracts and an 8.4% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant contracts in March 2022

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 59 contracts with a 66.3% share, followed by wind with 14 contracts and a 15.7% share and thermal with 11 contracts and a 12.4% share.

Power plant contracts in March 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. China Huadian (China): 3,000MW from one contract
  2. Hubei Qichun Garden Pumped Storage Power Station: 1,200MW from one contract
  3. ArcelorMittal (Luxembourg): 975MW capacity from one contract.

Power plant contracts in March 2022: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. China Power Engineering Consulting Group (China): 11,027MW from 14 contracts
  2. Greenko Energies (India): 975MW from one contract
  3. PowerChina Nuclear Engineering (China): 500MW capacity from three contracts.
