Power plant contracts down 52% in July 2022

Power plant contracts in July 2022 saw 62 contracts announced, marking a drop of 52% over the last 12-month average of 129, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 52 contracts and an 83.9% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: seven contracts and an 11.3% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: one contract and a 1.6% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 1.6% share
  5. Supply & Erection: one contract and a 1.6% share.

Asia-Pacific leads power plant activity in July 2022

Comparing contracts activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 44 contracts and a share of 71% during July 2022, followed by Middle East and Africa with nine contracts and a 14.5% share and Europe with five contracts and an 8.1% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant contracts in July 2022

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 37 contracts with a 59.7% share, followed by wind with 12 contracts and a 19.4% share and thermal with ten contracts and a 16.1% share.

Power plant contracts in July 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Government Of Rajasthan (India): 10,000MW from one contract
  2. Xinjiang Yecheng: 2,000MW from one contract
  3. Shenzhen Energy Group (China): 1,800MW capacity from one contract.

Power plant contracts in July 2022: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. NTPC Renewable Energy (India): 10,000MW from one contract
  2. China Energy Engineering (China): 3,498MW from 22 contracts
  3. Shandong Yijian Construction (China): 2,500MW capacity from two contracts.
