Malakoff, Engie and Sumitomo are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 40%, 30% and 30% respectively.
It is a Gas Turbine power plant. The power plant run on dual-fuel. The primary fuel being used to power the plant is natural gas. In case of shortage of natural gas the plant can also run on Fuel Oil. The fuel is procured from Bahrain Petroleum Company B.S.C.

The project got commissioned in February 2000.

The power generated from the project is sold to Electricity & Water Authority under a power purchase agreement for a period of 20 years.
