Description

The project is developed and owned by East Delta Electricity Production.

It is a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant. The power plant run on dual-fuel. The primary fuel being used to power the plant is natural gas. In case of shortage of natural gas the plant can also run on Light Fuel Oil.

Development status

The project got commissioned in October 2011.

Power purchase agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to Egyptian Electricity Transmission under a power purchase agreement.

Kharafi National was selected to render engineering procurement construction services for the Al Shabab Combined Cycle Power Plant (Al Shabab Combined Cycle Power Plant Phase I) project. Techint E&C was selected to render engineering procurement construction services for the Al Shabab Combined Cycle Power Plant (Al Shabab Combined Cycle Power Plant Phase II) project.

Al Shabab Combined Cycle Power Plant (Al Shabab Combined Cycle Power Plant Phase I) is equipped with GE Power 9E.03 gas turbines. The phase consists of 8 gas turbines with 125MW nameplate capacity.

Al Shabab Combined Cycle Power Plant (Al Shabab Combined Cycle Power Plant Phase II) is equipped with Ansaldo Energia steam turbines. The phase consists of 2 steam turbines, each with 265MW nameplate capacity.

GE Power supplied electric generator for the Al Shabab Combined Cycle Power Plant (Al Shabab Combined Cycle Power Plant Phase I).

AC Boilers supplied steam boiler for the project.

East Delta Electricity Production Company (EDEPC), is a wholly owned company of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC). The company owns and operates oil fired power generation facility. The company is primarily engaged in generation of electricity using diesel fired combined-cycle power plant with a capacity of 750 MW at Nuweiba, on the coast of the Gulf of Aqaba, South Sinai Governorate. In addition, annually,the company also produces 20412 GWH of energy Moreover, the company's power plant is also involved in design, installation, commissioning and start-up of the new control systems by Emerson Process Management.
