Al Warsan Waste to Energy Plant is a 220MW biopower project. It is planned in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The project is being developed by BESIX Group, Hitachi Zosen Inova and Itochu. The project is currently owned by Itochu with a stake of 20%, Hitachi Zosen Inova with a stake of 10%, BESIX Group and Dubal Holding.
The project is expected to supply enough clean energy to power 135,000 households.
The process of combustion will be adopted in this project to release the stored energy from the feed. Municipal solid waste will be used as a feedstock to power the project.
The project construction is expected to commence from 2020. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2023.
Power purchase agreement
The power generated from the project will be sold to Dubai Electricity and Water Authority under a power purchase agreement for a period of 35 years.
BESIX Group and Hitachi Zosen Inova are expected to render engineering procurement construction services for the biopower project.
Doosan Skoda Power will be the steam turbine supplier for the project. The company is expected to provide 1 unit of DST-S20 turbine with 200MW nameplate capacity.
