Description

The project was developed by New England Power. The project is co-owned by Brookfield Renewable Partners and Emera, with their respective ownership stake of 50% each.

Bear Swamp is a pumped storage project. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 2 in number. The penstock length is 106.68m. The penstock diameter is 5.334m. Bear Swamp (Bear Swamp unit 1) underwent through rehabilitation & modernization during 2021.

Power purchase agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to Long Island Power Authority under a power purchase agreement for a period of 15 years, starting from 2007.
