Description

The project was developed by Kraftwerk Birsfelden. Industrielle Werke Basel, EBM Netz and Genossenschaft Elektra Baselland are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 50%, 15% and 10% respectively.

Birsfelden is a run-of-river project. The penstock diameter is 7.2m. Birsfelden underwent through rehabilitation & modernization during 1995-2000. The project generated 47 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $95.67m.

Voest-Alpine MCE was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 2 units of kaplan turbines, each with 25MW nameplate capacity.
