Bruce 5 is an 872MW nuclear reactor which is located within the premises of Bruce B 1-4. It is located in Ontario, Canada. Description
Bruce 5 is a Generation II nuclear reactor developed by Atomic Energy of Canada and Ontario Power Generation, are the main contractors for the project.
The 872MW reactor is currently owned by Ontario Power Generation (100%) and operated by Bruce Power.
The PHWR reactor generates 7,138.88GWh/annum of electricity. It features 6,240 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released. Safety contol rods that are used to control the fission rate in the reactor are 32 in number.
Development status
The reactor construction commenced in May, 1978 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Feb, 1985.

GE Power was selected as the steam turbine supplier for the nuclear reactor. The company provided 1 steam turbine for the project. Ontario Power Generation was selected as an architect engineer for the reactor. The reactor system was supplied by Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd and MIL Vickers. The reactor vessel has been supplied by MIL Vickers. The material used for the construction of the vessel is Stainless Steel (304L SS CALANDRIA). The civil works were carried out by Ontario Power Generation.
