Description

Doel 1 is a Generation II nuclear reactor developed by Alstom ACEC Energie, John Cockerill Group and Westinghouse Electric, are the main contractors for the project.

The 454MW reactor is owned and operated by Electrabel. The company has a stake of 100%.

The PWR reactor generates 3,587.85GWh/annum of electricity. It features 121 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released. Safety contol rods that are used to control the fission rate in the reactor are 12 in number.

Development status

The reactor construction commenced in Jul, 1969 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Feb, 1975.

The steam turbines for the reactor have been supplied by Franco Tosi Meccanica and GE Power. Tractebel Engineering was selected as an architect engineer for the reactor. The reactor system was supplied by Westinghouse Electric Co LLC, John Cockerill Group and Alstom ACEC Energie. The reactor vessel have been supplied by Westinghouse Electric Co LLC, John Cockerill Group and Alstom ACEC Energie. The material used for the construction of the vessel is Alloyed Steel (SOUDOTENAX-56). The civil works were carried out by Engema-Franki.
