Description

The project is being developed by Dorper Wind farm. Black Economic Empowerment, Dorper Wind farm, Gaia Infrastructure Capital and Sumitomo are currently owning the project.

The project is expected to generate 1,461,117MWh electricity to offset 916,889.802t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year.

Dorper Wind Farm (Dorper II) consists of 42 turbines with 2.4MW nameplate capacity.

Dorper Wind Farm (Dorper III) consists of 42 turbines with 2.4MW nameplate capacity.

Dorper Wind Farm (Dorper IV) consists of 42 turbines with 2.4MW nameplate capacity.

Dorper Wind Farm (Dorper V) consists of 60 turbines with 2.4MW nameplate capacity.

The Dorper Wind Farm (Dorper II), will have 80m high towers.

The Dorper Wind Farm (Dorper III), will have 80m high towers.

The Dorper Wind Farm (Dorper IV), will have 80m high towers.

The Dorper Wind Farm (Dorper V), will have 80m high towers.

Development status

Post completion of the construction, the project is expected to get commissioned in August 2014.

Power purchase agreement

The power generated from the Dorper Wind Farm (Dorper I) will be sold to Eskom Holdings SOC under a power purchase agreement. The power will be sold at the rate of $0.104kWh for a period of 20 years, starting from 2014. The capacity to be procured is 97.53MW.

Contractors involved

Nordex and Power Construction are expected to render engineering procurement construction services for the Dorper Wind Farm (Dorper I).

Dorper Wind Farm (Dorper I) will be equipped with Nordex N100 (2.5 MW) turbines. The phase consists of 40 turbines with 2.5MW nameplate capacity.

Nordex is expected to perform operations and maintenance for the Dorper Wind Farm (Dorper I). The operation and maintenance contract tenure will likely be commencing from 2014, for a period of 10 years.
