Description

The project was developed by Grande Dixence. Alpiq Holding, Axpo Power, BKW Energie and Industrielle Werke Basel are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 60%, 13.33%, 13.33% and 13.33% respectively.

The hydro reservoir capacity is 166 million cubic meter. The gross head and net head of the project are 874m and 482m respectively. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 3 in number. Fionnay Grande Dixence underwent through rehabilitation & modernization during 2016-2023.

The project construction commenced in 1950 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 1961.

Contractors involved

Andritz Hydro was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 6 units of pelton turbines, each with 48.33MW nameplate capacity.

ABB supplied 6 electric generators for the project.
