Description
The project is being developed by BBEnergy, Energy Group and Harmony Gold Mining. Mahlako Financial Services and Harmony Gold Mining are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 51% and 49% respectively.
Harmony Gold Welkom Solar PV Park is a ground-mounted solar project.
The project is expected to generate 68,000MWh electricity to offset 65,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year. The project cost is expected to be around $26.85m.
Development status
The project construction is expected to commence from 2022. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2024.
Power purchase agreement
The power generated from the project will be sold to Harmony Gold Mining under a power purchase agreement for a period of 15 years.
