The project is being developed and currently owned by Tanzania Electric Supply. The company has a stake of 100%.
It is a Gas Turbine power plant. The power plant can run on dual-fuel. The primary fuel being used to power the plant will be natural gas. In case of shortage of natural gas the plant will run on Jet A-1.
The project cost is expected to be around $371m.
