Mpeketoni Wind Power Project is a 90MW onshore wind power project. It is planned in Lamu, Kenya. The project is being developed by Bahari Wind. The project is co-owned by Bahari Wind and IFC InfraVentures, with their respective ownership stake of 50% each.
The project is expected to supply enough clean energy to power 180,000 households, to offset 190,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year. The project cost is expected to be around $180m.
The wind power project consists of 22 turbines.
Post completion of the construction, the project is expected to get commissioned in 2023.
Power purchase agreement
The power generated from the project will be sold to Kenya Power and Lighting under a power purchase agreement for a period of 20 years.
Elicio and Kenwinds Holdings are expected to be contracted for rendering of operations & maintenance services for the project.
