Description

The project was developed by Nant de Drance. Alpiq Holding, Swiss Federal Railways, Industrielle Werke Basel and Forces motrices valaisannes are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 39%, 36%, 15% and 10% respectively.

Nant de Drance is a pumped storage project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 227 million cubic meter. The net head of the project is 71.1m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 2 in number. The project generated 2,500 GWh of electricity.

GE Renewable Energy was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The project consists of 6 units of Pump turbines, each with 150MW nameplate capacity.
