Description

The project was developed by Grande Dixence. Alpiq Holding, Axpo Power, BKW Energie and Industrielle Werke Basel are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 60%, 13.33%, 13.33% and 13.33% respectively.

The hydro reservoir capacity is 400 million cubic meter. The gross head of the project is 1,008m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 1 in number. Nendaz underwent through rehabilitation & modernization during 2016-2023.

The hydro power project consists of 6 turbines, each with 65MW nameplate capacity.

The project has 4 electric generators installed at the site. The generator capacity is 80 MVA.

Development status

The project construction commenced in 1951 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 1961.
