Description
The project is being developed by OPG Power Generation and OPG Power Ventures. The project is currently owned by OPG Power Generation with a stake of 100%.
It is a Steam Turbine power plant. The power plant can run on dual-fuel. The primary fuel being used to power the plant will be coal. In case of shortage of coal the plant will run on High Sulphur Diesel & High Speed Diesel. The fuel will be procured from Coal India Limited (CIL).

Post completion of the construction, the project is expected to get commissioned in August 2010.

The power generated from the OPG Chennai Power Plant (OPG Chennai Power Plant Unit I) will be sold to Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution under a power purchase agreement.

The power generated from the OPG Chennai Power Plant (OPG Chennai Power Plant Unit III) will be sold to Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution under a power purchase agreement.
The power generated from the OPG Chennai Power Plant (OPG Chennai Power Plant Unit IV) will be sold to Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution under a power purchase agreement.
