Description

The project was developed by ThalNova Power Thar. The Hub Power, House of Habib, Novatex, China Machinery Engineering and Descon Engineering are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 38%, 26%, 25%, 10% and 1% respectively.

It is a Steam Turbine power plant. The power plant run on dual-fuel. The primary fuel being used to power the plant is lignite. In case of shortage of lignite the plant can also run on High Speed Diesel. The fuel is procured from Thar Block II, Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company.

The project construction commenced in 2018 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in October 2022.

Power purchase agreement

The power generated from the Thar Block II Power Plant Phase II (Thar Block II Power Plant Phase II Unit I) is sold to National Transmission & Despatch under a power purchase agreement for a period of 30 years.

Contractors involved

China Machinery Engineering and Jiangsu Power Design Institute were selected to render engineering procurement construction services for the Thar Block II Power Plant Phase II (Thar Block II Power Plant Phase II Unit I).

Thar Block II Power Plant Phase II (Thar Block II Power Plant Phase II Unit I) is equipped with GE Power. The Coal fired phase consists steam turbines with 330MW nameplate capacity.
