Description

The project is being developed by ThalNova Power Thar. The Hub Power, House of Habib, Novatex, China Machinery Engineering and Descon Engineering are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 38%, 26%, 25%, 10% and 1% respectively.

It is a Steam Turbine power plant. The power plant can run on dual-fuel. The primary fuel being used to power the plant will be lignite. In case of shortage of lignite the plant will run on High Speed Diesel. The fuel will be procured from Thar Block II, Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company.

Development status

The project construction is expected to commence from 2018. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by October 2022.

Power purchase agreement

The power generated from the Thar Block II Power Plant Phase II (Thar Block II Power Plant Phase II Unit I) will be sold to National Transmission & Despatch under a power purchase agreement for a period of 30 years.

Contractors involved

China Machinery Engineering and Jiangsu Power Design Institute are expected to render engineering procurement construction services for the Thar Block II Power Plant Phase II (Thar Block II Power Plant Phase II Unit I).
