Umapalca HPP is a run-of-river with pondage project. The gross head and net head of the project will be 857.35m and 854.59m respectively. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, is expected to be 1 in number. The penstock length will be 1,868m. The penstock diameter will be 1.9m. The project is expected to generate 436 GWh of electricity.

The project construction is expected to commence from 2016. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2025.
