Vogtle 4 is a Generation III+ nuclear reactor being developed by Bechtel, The Shaw Group and Westinghouse Electric, are the main contractors for the project.

The 1,250MW reactor will be operated by Southern Nuclear Operating. Georgia Power, Oglethorpe Power, MEAG Power and Dalton Utilities are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 45.7%, 30%, 22.7% and 1.6% respectively.

Vogtle 4 is a type of PWR reactor. It will feature 157 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released.

Development status

The reactor construction is expected to commence from Nov, 2013. Subsequent to that it will enter commercial operation by Mar, 2024.

GE Power will be the steam turbine supplier for the nuclear reactor. The company is expected to provide 1 steam turbine for the project. Westinghouse Electric is expected to be the architect engineer for the reactor. The reactor system is likely to be supplied by Westinghouse Electric. The reactor vessel is expected to be supplied by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction. The material used for the construction of the vessel will be Carbon Steel. The civil works will be carried out by Bechtel, Fluor Corp and Southern Company Services.
