Power plant contracts down 52% in May 2020

Power plant contracts in May 2020 saw 71 contracts announced, marking a drop of 52% over the last 12-month average of 147, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 55 contracts and a 77.5% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 13 contracts and an 18.3% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 4.2% share.

Asia-Pacific leads power plant activity in May 2020

Comparing contracts activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 26 contracts and a share of 36.6% during May 2020, followed by Europe with 19 contracts and a 26.8% share and North America with 17 contracts and a 23.9% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant contracts in May 2020

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 34 contracts with a 46.6% share, followed by wind with 15 contracts and a 20.5% share and hydro with ten contracts and a 13.7% share.

Power plant contracts in May 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. PT Indonesia Dafeng Heshun Energy Industri: 1,200MW from one contract
  2. Primesouth Lebanon s.a.l.: 640MW from one contract
  3. ZESCO (Zambia): 600MW capacity from one contract.

Power plant contracts in May 2020: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. China Gezhouba Group (China): 1,630MW from four contracts
  2. China CAMC Engineering (China): 640MW from one contract
  3. Power Construction Corporation of China (China): 621MW capacity from two contracts.
