Power plant contracts down 44% in September 2020

Power plant contracts in September 2020 saw 87 contracts announced, marking a drop of 44% over the last 12-month average of 155, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 60 contracts and a 69% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 14 contracts and a 16.1% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: ten contracts and an 11.5% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 3.4% share.

Asia-Pacific leads power plant activity in September 2020

Comparing contracts activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 39 contracts and a share of 44.8% during September 2020, followed by Europe with 24 contracts and a 27.6% share and North America with 13 contracts and a 14.9% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant contracts in September 2020

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 50 contracts with a 56.2% share, followed by wind with 19 contracts and a 21.3% share and thermal with nine contracts and a 10.1% share.

Power plant contracts in September 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Taiwan Power (Taiwan): 6,500MW from one contract
  2. Total (France): 3,300MW from one contract
  3. Hin Kong Power (Thailand): 1,400MW capacity from one contract.

Power plant contracts in September 2020: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. CTCI (Taiwan) and General Electric International (United States): 6,500MW from one contract
  2. SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction (China): 3,320MW from two contracts
  3. Ignis Energia (Spain): 3,300MW capacity from one contract.
