Power plant tenders down 13% in January 2021

Power plant tenders in January 2021 saw 110 tenders announced, marking a drop of 13% over the last 12-month average of 127, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 87 tenders and a 79.1% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 14 tenders and a 12.7% share
  3. Others: five tenders and a 4.5% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four tenders and a 3.6% share.

Asia-Pacific leads power plant activity in January 2021

Comparing tenders activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 39 tenders and a share of 35.5% during January 2021, followed by Middle East and Africa with 36 tenders and a 32.7% share and Europe with 17 tenders and a 15.5% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant tenders in January 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 87 tenders with a 73.7% share, followed by hydro with 11 tenders and a 9.3% share and wind with nine tenders and a 7.6% share.

Power plant tenders in January 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Bundelkhand Saur Urja (India): 1,200MW from one tender
  2. Ministere de l’Ecologie, du Developpement Durable des Transports et du Logement: 1,050MW from one tender
  3. NTPC (India): 490.25MW capacity from three tenders.
