Power plant tenders down 11% in Q2 2021

Power plant tenders in Q2 2021 saw 354 tenders announced, marking a drop of 11% over the last four-quarter average of 398, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 298 tenders and an 84.2% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 31 tenders and an 8.8% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: 21 tenders and a 5.9% share
  4. Others: two tenders and a 0.6% share
  5. Supply & Erection: two tenders and a 0.6% share.

Asia-Pacific leads power plant activity in Q2 2021

Comparing tenders activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 126 tenders and a share of 35.6% during Q2 2021, followed by Europe with 88 tenders and a 24.9% share and Middle East and Africa with 76 tenders and a 21.5% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant tenders in Q2 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 300 tenders with a 79.6% share, followed by wind with 25 tenders and a 6.6% share and thermal with 18 tenders and a 4.8% share.

Power plant tenders in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Turkey (Turkey) and Netherlands Enterprise Agency (Netherlands): 4,000MW from one tender
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 3,600MW from three tenders
  3. Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (Kuwait): 3,000MW capacity from one tender.
