Power plant tenders down 23% in Q4 2021

Power plant tenders in Q4 2021 saw 315 tenders announced, marking a drop of 23% over the last four-quarter average of 407, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 256 tenders and an 81.3% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 35 tenders and an 11.1% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 20 tenders and a 6.3% share
  4. Others: four tenders and a 1.3% share.

Middle East and Africa leads power plant activity in Q4 2021

Comparing tenders activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Middle East and Africa held the top position with 100 tenders and a share of 31.7% during Q4 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with 89 tenders and a 28.3% share and Europe with 67 tenders and a 21.3% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant tenders in Q4 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 258 tenders with a 79.4% share, followed by hydro with 24 tenders and a 7.4% share and wind with 19 tenders and a 5.8% share.

Power plant tenders in Q4 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Renewable Energy and Electricity Efficiency Organization: 10,000MW from one tender
  2. Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate, Netherland: 6,000MW from one tender
  3. Hindustan Salts (India): 5,000MW capacity from two tenders.
