Power plant tenders down 40% in December 2021

Power plant tenders in December 2021 saw 79 tenders announced, marking a drop of 40% over the last 12-month average of 131, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 63 tenders and a 79.7% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: ten tenders and a 12.7% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five tenders and a 6.3% share
  4. Others: one tender and a 1.3% share.

Asia-Pacific leads power plant activity in December 2021

Comparing tenders activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 33 tenders and a share of 41.8% during December 2021, followed by Middle East and Africa with 17 tenders and a 21.5% share and Europe with 11 tenders and a 13.9% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant tenders in December 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 61 tenders with a 71.8% share, followed by hydro with 11 tenders and a 12.9% share and thermal with five tenders and a 5.9% share.

Power plant tenders in December 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Greenko MP01 IREP Private: 1,440MW from one tender
  2. Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies: 1,000MW from one tender
  3. Ministerio de Energia y Recursos Naturales No Renovables: 900MW capacity from two tenders.
