Power plant tenders down 82% in Q1 2022

Power plant tenders in Q1 2022 saw 67 tenders announced, marking a drop of 82% over the last four-quarter average of 378, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 50 tenders and a 74.6% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 14 tenders and a 20.9% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two tenders and a 3% share
  4. Others: one tender and a 1.5% share.

Asia-Pacific leads power plant activity in Q1 2022

Comparing tenders activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 23 tenders and a share of 34.3% during Q1 2022, followed by Europe with 17 tenders and a 25.4% share and Middle East and Africa with 15 tenders and a 22.4% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant tenders in Q1 2022

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 59 tenders with an 84.3% share, followed by hydro with five tenders and a 7.1% share and nuclear with two tenders and a 2.9% share.

Power plant tenders in Q1 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Philippines Department of Energy (Philippines) and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam: 2,000MW from one tender
  2. NTPC (India): 900MW from one tender
  3. Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security: 200MW capacity from one tender.
