The H2 total for renewable energy auctions was up 14% year on year compared with the total of 29 auctions in H1 2020.
Renewable energy auctions in H2 2020: Asia-Pacific leads global activity
On comparing renewable energy auctions in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 15 auctions and a share of 45.5% during H2 2020, followed by South and Central America with 11 auctions and a 33.3% share and Europe with six auctions and an 18.2% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with one auction and a 3% share.

Solar is top technology area for renewable energy auctions in H2 2020
Looking at renewable energy auctions divided by the type of technology, Solar accounted for the largest proportion with 25 auctions and a 55.6% share, followed by Wind with nine auctions and a 20% share and Hydro with five auctions and an 11.1% share.

- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,340MW from five auctions
- NTPC (India): 1,070MW from one auction.
