Rio Macho is a 141MW hydro power project. It is located on Macho, Tapantí, Blanco, and Pejibaye river/basin in Cartago, Costa Rica. The project is currently active. It has been developed in multiple phases. The project construction commenced in 1959 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 1963.

Contractors Involved

Rio Macho (Rio Macho – I) is equipped with Andritz Hydro pelton turbines. The phase consists of 2 turbines with 18MW nameplate capacity.

Rio Macho (Rio Macho – II) is equipped with Andritz Hydro pelton turbines. The phase consists of 2 turbines with 35MW nameplate capacity.

Rio Macho (Rio Macho – III) is equipped with Andritz Hydro pelton turbine. The phase consists of 1 turbine with 35MW nameplate capacity.

The electric generators for the project were procured from Andritz Hydro and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
