Rumela is a 320MW hydro power project. It is located on Atbara river/basin in Kassala, Sudan. The project is currently active. It has been developed in multiple phases. The project construction commenced in 2010 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2017.

Description

The project was developed by China International Water & Electric and China Three Gorges.

The hydro reservoir capacity is 2,700 million cubic meter. The gross head and net head of the project are 41.4m and 40m respectively. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 4 in number. The penstock length is 80m. The penstock diameter is 8.8m. The project generated 843 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $1,469m.
