Smart grid contracts down 48% in Q4 2021

Smart grid contracts in Q4 2021 saw 25 contracts announced, marking a drop of 48% over the last four-quarter average of 48, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 19 contracts and a 76% share
  2. Project Implementation: three contracts and a 12% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 4% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 4% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: one contract and a 4% share.

North America leads smart grid activity in Q4 2021

Comparing contracts activity in smart grid segment in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 11 contracts and a share of 44% during Q4 2021, followed by Middle East and Africa with six contracts and a 24% share and Asia-Pacific with four contracts and a 16% share.

Solar is leading technology for smart grid contracts in Q4 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for five contracts with an 83.3% share, followed by hydro with one contract and a 16.7% share.
