Smart grid tenders up 57% in Q2 2021

Smart grid tenders in Q2 2021 saw 102 tenders announced, marking a rise of 57% over the last four-quarter average of 65, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 68 tenders and a 66.7% share
  2. Project Implementation: 13 tenders and a 12.7% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 12 tenders and an 11.8% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: seven tenders and a 6.9% share
  5. Others: one tender and a 1% share
  6. Power Purchase Agreement: one tender and a 1% share.

North America leads smart grid activity in Q2 2021

Comparing tenders activity in smart grid segment in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 32 tenders and a share of 31.4% during Q2 2021, followed by Europe with 27 tenders and a 26.5% share and Asia-Pacific with 19 tenders and an 18.6% share.

Solar is leading technology for smart grid tenders in Q2 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 18 tenders with an 81.8% share, followed by hydro with three tenders and a 13.6% share and thermal with one tender and a 4.5% share.

Smart grid tenders in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of smart grid tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Northumberland County Council: 0.8MW from one tender
  2. Guyana Energy Agency (Guyana): 0.38MW from three tenders
  3. Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (United States): 0.08MW capacity from one tender.
