South and Central America generation equipment contracts activity down 13% in Q3 2021

There were 20 generation equipment contracts announced in the South and Central America region in Q3 2021, marking a drop of 13% over the last four-quarter average of 23, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Generation Equipment stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the South and Central America region in Q3 2021 with 20 contracts and a 29.9% share, followed by Electricity Procurement with 16 contracts and a 23.9% share and Power Plant with ten contracts and a 14.9% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 15 contracts and a 75% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 15% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 5% share
  4. Project Implementation: one contract and a 5% share.

Solar is top technology for South and Central America generation equipment contracts in Q3 2021

Looking at generation equipment contracts by the type of technology in the South and Central America region, solar accounted for seven contracts with a 33.3% share, followed by wind with five contracts and a 23.8% share and thermal with three contracts and a 14.3% share.
