South and Central America power industry contracts in December 2020: Brazil leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, Brazil led the activity in December 2020 with 12 contracts and a share of 60%, up 15.6% over the previous month and up 140% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Colombia with three contracts and a share of 15% and Costa Rica with two contracts and a share of 10% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, Brazil held the top spot with five contracts, followed by Chile with five and Colombia with one contract.

Wind is top technology area for contracts in December 2020

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with eight contracts and a 40% share, followed by solar with seven contracts and a 35% share and thermal with three contracts and a 15% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in South and Central America as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment in December 2020, with ten contracts, followed by Power Plant (4) and Electricity Procurement (4).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: ten contracts and a 50% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: four contracts and a 20% share
  3. Project Implementation: four contracts and a 20% share
