South and Central America power industry contracts in Q3 2020: Chile leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, Chile led the activity in Q3 2020 with 18 contracts and a share of 31.6%, up 4.3% over the previous quarter and up 20% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Brazil with 17 contracts and a share of 29.8% and Colombia with seven contracts and a share of 12.3% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, Brazil held the top spot with 35 contracts, followed by Chile with 15 and Argentina with 13 contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q3 2020
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 25 contracts and a 47.2% share, followed by wind with 15 contracts and a 28.3% share and hydro with seven contracts and a 13.2% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment in South and Central America power contracts activity during Q3 2020, with 29 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (13) and Power Plant (12).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 28 contracts and a 49.1% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 13 contracts and a 22.8% share
- Project Implementation: 11 contracts and a 19.3% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five contracts and an 8.8% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in South and Central America were:
- COPEL – Companhia Paranaense de Energia (Brazil): 260MW from one contract
- Cammesa (Argentina): 200MW from one contract

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in South and Central America were:
- Voltalia (France): 260MW from one contract
- Wartsila (Finland) and Petroquimica Comodoro Rivadavia (Argentina): 200MW from one contract
- AES Gener (Chile): 131MW capacity from two contracts.
