South and Central America Solar technology contracts activity drops 9% in Q1 2022

South and Central America solar technology contracts in Q1 2022 saw 20 contracts announced, marking a drop of 9% over the last four-quarter average of 22, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of solar technology contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection with nine contracts and a 45% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: six contracts and a 30% share
  3. Project Implementation: five contracts and a 25% share.

Brazil tops South and Central America solar power contracts activity

Brazil was the top country in the South and Central America region for solar technology contracts recorded in Q1 2022 with seven contracts and a 35% share, followed by Colombia with five contracts and a 25% share and the Dominican Republic with five contracts and a 25% share.

South and Central America solar technology contracts in Q1 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in South and Central America were:

  1. BlackRock Global Renewable Power Fund III: 200MW from one contract
  2. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais: 190.5MW from one contract
  3. Ministerio de Energia y Minas: 93MW capacity from two contracts.

South and Central America solar technology contracts in Q1 2022: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in South and Central America were:

  1. Solek Group (Czech Republic): 200MW from one contract
  2. Canadian Solar (Canada): 190.5MW from one contract
  3. Socolco (Colombia): 12.3MW capacity from one contract.
