The project is being developed and currently owned by EnergyAustralia.
Spencer Gulf Project is a pumped storage project. The hydro reservoir capacity is planned to be 2.9 million cubic meter. The net head of the project will be 223m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, is expected to be 2 in number. The penstock length will be 3,300m. The penstock diameter will be 4.2m. The project is expected to generate 1,800 GWh of electricity. The project cost is expected to be around $614.5m.
The hydro power project consists of 3 turbines, each with 75MW nameplate capacity.
The project will have 2 electric generators installed at the project site. The generator capacity is likely to be 145 MVA.
