T&D project contracts down 11% in Q1 2022

T&D project contracts in Q1 2022 saw 101 contracts announced, marking a drop of 11% over the last four-quarter average of 114, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 68 contracts and a 67.3% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 29 contracts and a 28.7% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 3% share
  4. Supply & Erection: one contract and a 1% share.

Asia-Pacific leads T&D project activity in Q1 2022

Comparing contracts activity in T&D project segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 64 contracts and a share of 63.4% during Q1 2022, followed by Europe with 17 contracts and a 16.8% share and Middle East and Africa with 17 contracts and a 16.8% share.

Wind is leading technology for T&D project contracts in Q1 2022

Among the technologies, wind accounted for 26 contracts with a 53.1% share, followed by solar with 17 contracts and a 34.7% share and thermal with five contracts and a 10.2% share.

T&D project contracts in Q1 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of T&D project contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Shandong Energy Group (China): 500MW from one contract
  2. Ministry of Electricity, Kurdistan, Iraq (Iraq) and Ministry of National Resources, Kurdistan: 165MW from one contract
  3. Lightsource BP Renewable Energy Investments (United Kingdom): 130MW capacity from one contract.

T&D project contracts in Q1 2022: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. China Power Engineering Consulting Group (China): 635.6MW from four contracts
  2. PowerChina Zhongnan Engineering (China) and SEPCO Electric Power Construction (China): 500MW from one contract
  3. PowerChina Nuclear Engineering (China): 400MW capacity from two contracts.
