The electro-chemical battery energy storage project uses lithium-ion as its storage technology. The project was announced in 2018 and will be commissioned in 2021.


The Viridity Energy-Alpha – Battery Energy Storage System is being developed by Viridity Energy. The project is owned by Viridity Energy (100%), a subsidiary of Ormat Technologies.

The key applications of the project are load following (tertiary balancing) and ancillary services.

Additional information

The BESS will be utilized to provide ancillary services to assist PJM Interconnection, a regional transmission organization (RTO), in balancing the electric grid, and will also be available as a capacity asset.
