Xekaman 3 is a 250MW hydro power project. It is located on Xekaman river/basin in Sekong, Laos. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 2006 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2013.

Description

The project was developed by Song Da. Vietnam-Lao Power Joint. Stock and Electricite du Laos are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 85% and 15% respectively.

Xekaman 3 is a reservoir based project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 141.5 million cubic meter. The gross head and net head of the project are 520m and 515m respectively. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 2 in number. The penstock length is 261.6m. The penstock diameter is 3m. The project generated 1,000 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $312m.

Power Purchase Agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to Vietnam Electricity under a power purchase agreement.

Andritz Hydro was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 2 units of pelton turbines, each with 125MW nameplate capacity.
