UK power generator equipment company Aggreko has been appointed the official energy supplier for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, which takes place from 20 September to 2 November.
Aggreko will provide critical power systems and distribution for all broadcasts as well as backup systems for the 12 venues across Japan. The company will ensure that 80 engineers will be on site at the venues to support operations.
World Rugby chairman Sir Bill Beaumont said: “We are delighted to welcome Aggreko as a supplier for Rugby World Cup 2019. The appointment of a company with a proven track record in major events delivery to the tournament commercial family will further broaden the reach and profile of what is shaping up to be the most popular Rugby World Cup ever with record ticket demand and the biggest-ever broadcast and digital media footprint.”
Aggreko managing director Robert Wells added: “Aggreko are proud to be chosen to provide our critical services to such a global and prestigious event as Rugby World Cup 2019. We have ample experience handling the worlds’ biggest events, and the 2019 Rugby World Cup certainly falls under that category.”
Glasgow-headquartered Aggreko has previously been involved with a number of major sporting events throughout the world, including the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang and the Ryder Cup in the same year.
