DSM North America has started operations at its 66 acres expanded solarfield in Belvidere, New Jersey, US.
Featuring more than 62,000 solar panels, the new 20.2MW solar generation facility is expected to generate 25,000,000kWh of renewable electricity every year.
The facility is reported to be the largest net-metered solar installation in New Jersey and the second largest on the East Coast.
DSM North America president and general counsel Hugh Welsh said: “The newly expanded solarfield is part of DSM’s commitment to doing well by doing good for both our communities and our environment.
“It will minimise our impact on the planet through clean, renewable energy and allow for sending enough green energy back to the grid to power 406 homes for a year. At DSM we are proud to do our part to move the state of New Jersey and our country toward a clean energy future.”
For this solar project, DSM has partnered with GeoPeak Energy to develop, engineer, and construct the newly expanded Belvidere solarfield. This facility is expected to further offset carbon emissions from the grid by more than 17,400mt a year.

By GlobalDataThe addition of the new solar project is expected to triple the phase one solarfield’s size, as well as energy at the site.
GeoPeak Energy partner AJ Javan said: “We’re proud to be an integral part of DSM’s commitment to sustainability and thank DSM for trusting us to develop and construct another solar project.
“Over the past few years, GeoPeak Energy has partnered with DSM to implement key objectives of its sustainability plan, including this 20MW solar project.
“This is a prime example of the planning and execution that is required to complete the construction of a complex project of this scale.”
As a member of the RE100 initiative, DSM has set a goal to source 100% renewable electricity for its global operations.
Recently, Swiss fragrance and flavour company Firmenich has joined RE100 and committed to using 100% renewable electricity for its operations by 2020.
