Wind Power Market seeing increased risk and disruption

The wind power market has grown at a CAGR of 14% between 2010 and 2021 to reach 830 GW by end of 2021. This has largely been possible due to favourable government policies that have provided incentives to the sector. This has led to an increase in the share of wind in the capacity mix, going from a miniscule 4% in 2010 to 10% in 2021. This is further set to rise to 15% by 2030. However, the recent commodity price increase has hit the sector hard, increasing risks for wind turbine manufacturers and project developers, and the Russia-Ukraine crisis has caused further price increase and supply chain disruption. In light of this, GlobalData has identified which countries are expected to add the majority of wind power capacity out to 2030. The new Bruenning’s Breeze wind farm features 76 3MW wind turbines by Acciona/Nordex.

It will be the second wind farm for E.ON in Texas region and the 22nd wind farm in the US.

E.ON North America chief operating officer Silvia Ortin said: “We’re very happy to continue our relationship with Willacy County and excited by the continued community support from the surrounding South Texas area.

“Michelle Bruenning was a treasured friend and colleague whose spirit and generosity was an inspiration. We feel this project, with its location near the beach and water – two places she loved so much, will be a fitting testament to Michelle and her lasting impact on the E.ON family.”

In order to complete the Bruenning’s Breeze project, the company hired 250 construction workers and employed a team of 14 members to oversee day-to-day operations of the wind farm.

Over the next 25 years, the Bruenning’s Breeze wind farm is expected to generate more than $57m in property taxes for Willacy County.

The revenues generated through the wind farm will be used by the county to support essential county services and local schools.
