Spanish renewable energy company EDP Renewables (EDPR) through its subsidiary EDP Renewables North America, has signed an agreement to build and transfer a 302MW windfarm in the US state of Indiana.

The company signed the agreement with utility company NiSource’s subsidiary Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO). NIPSCO hope that Indiana Crossroads windfarm will generate economic benefits and also create new employment opportunities during the construction and operational phase.

Additionally, the project is expected to generate new revenues to the government and the landowners.

NIPSCO selected the Indiana Crossroads windfarm project in a tender process for its potential to boost the local economy and reduce the environmental footprint.

Once operational in 2021, the windfarm will have the capacity to generate enough energy to power more than 83,000 homes in Indiana.

EDPR and NIPSCO are also working on the installation of 102MW Rosewater windfarm, which is also being developed in Indiana.

The Rosewater wind facility recently secured approval from the local and state authorities (Utility Regulatory Commission) to initiate construction works at the site and is expected to be commissioned by 2020. Construction for the facility started earlier this month.

EDPR has been operating in the US for more than a decade and currently has 47 wind farms located in states such as California, Illinois, New York and Texas.

In March 2019, EDP signed two 15-year power purchase agreements (PPA) with Microsoft for 125MW of power from Timber Road IV windfarm in Ohio.
