Power and automation technology group, ABB has secured a supply order worth $23m from Ukraine's national power grid operator NPC Ukrenergo to strengthen the nation's power transmission network.

ABB will deliver more than 80 sets of live tank circuit breakers rated at 110, 330, 500 and 750kV to be installed in seven 750kV transmission substations.

In addition, NPC Ukrenergo will replace air blast-type circuit breakers with ABB's live tank circuit breakers. The upgrades will be in three phases starting in this 2011 and due to be complete in 2014.

Furthermore, ABB will also supply control cabinets with bay control devices for the circuit breakers, along with an online condition monitoring system.

ABB has signed a contract with Ukrenergo to provide 44 sets of 750kV SF6 circuit breakers earlier this year.
