The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide a $465m loan for the construction of a 440MW Nam Ngum 3 hydro power plant in Thailand.

The Nam Ngum 3 comprises a 220m high damn that will create a 27.5km2 reservoir and will provide 2,072GW hours of clean energy annually.

The facility is expected to reduce one million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year.

The $1bn plant will be operated by Nam Ngum 3 Power Company for 27 years and will be operational in 2017.
