BC Hydro has signed electricity purchase agreements (EPAs) with AltaGas for two hydroelectric projects in British Columbia in Canada for $1bn.
The projects in McLymont Creek and Volcano Creek – with a combined capacity of 82MW – and the 195MW Forrest Kerr project are known as Northwest Projects, which will be the anchor tenants for the Northwest Transmission Line and have a total capacity of 277MW.
AltaGas expects the McLymont Creek and Volcano Creek projects to be in service in the fourth quarter 2015, while the Forrest Kerr project, currently under construction, is set to begin service in July 2014.
Upon completion, the sites will provide enough electricity for 95,000 homes in British Columbia and reduce more than 780,000t of greenhouse gas equivalents annually.
